This amazing video from the Secret Galaxy channel tells us the surprising history of Chex Quest, sharing some information that leads us to believe that this fun and pleasant FPS from the 90s is the best cereal box prize of all time!

Chex Quest is a non-violent first-person shooter video game created by Digital Café and released in 1996, originally intended as a Chex cereal promotion aimed at children aged 6–9 and up.

Known today for having been the first video game ever to be included in cereal boxes as a prize, Chex Quest is also total conversion of our dear old classic Doom (The Ultimate Doom, to be more specific), from id Software. It features new maps, monsters, weapons, textures, music, sounds, graphics… Everything. It also discards all the violent theme in order to promote a colorful and wholesome universe, which today is also pretty nostalgic since its pure 1990s. And yes. The game is still fun.

While Chex Quest was, initially, released on CD-ROM via cereal boxes it has since taken on a life of it’s own with sequels (Chex Quest 2: Flemoids Take Chextropolis and Chex Quest 3) and a remake, Chex Quest HD plus comics and a whole ton of fan projects (including mods).
