Vampire Hunter D [Full and English dubbed]

Overview

Here we have the full-length anime Vampire Hunter D (吸血鬼ハンターD) complete and dubbed into English.

For those unfamiliar with it, Vampire Hunter D is a 1985 Japanese horror and fantasy OVA film whose script is based on the first in the long-running series of light novels written by Hideyuki Kikuchi. It was produced by Ashi Productions, in association with Epic/Sony Records, CBS/Sony Group Inc.

Billed by Japanese producers as a “dark science fiction novel from the future“, the film, like the original work, is set in the year 12,090 AD, in a post-nuclear holocaust world, where a young woman hires a mysterious half-vampire, a Dampyr, who is also a half-human vampire hunter to protect her from a powerful aristocratic vampire lord much like the infamous Count Dracula.

Vampire Hunter D was the first of several film adaptations (both live-action and animated) of Hideyuki Kikuchi’s works. Several of them (Wicked City, Demon City Shinjuku and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust) were directed by Madhouse’s Yoshiaki Kawajiri.

The OVA remains a cult classic among English-speaking audiences, but it is also well-loved by anime enthusiasts from other countries, such as Brazil.
