Overview

Aztec Adventure: The Golden Road to Paradise, also known as Nazca ’88 or simply Aztec Adventure, is an action/labyrinth game developed and published by Sega for their Master System console. Originally released in Japan on September 20, 1987, and later in Europe and the US in 1988, the game blends exploration with combat in a maze-like setting inspired by the Aztec mythology.

In Aztec Adventure, players control Niño, an adventurer seeking to find the Aztec Paradise. The game features ten different environments to explore, including deserts, swamps, ruins, underground waterways, and forests. Players must navigate these areas, combat various enemies, and collect weapons, such as fireballs, arrows, and tornadoes. Some weapons are more effective against bosses, and players can hire companions using gold. These companions, who start as enemies, require varying amounts of gold based on their power.

The game was originally set in Nazca, but the storyline and title were adapted for international releases to feature Aztec settings, though elements of Nazca culture, including the Nazca Lines, remain present. Notably, three computer-controlled adventurers will also attempt to hinder the player’s progress.

As of now, Aztec Adventure has not been ported to other platforms or released digitally.

Synopsis

Welcome to the land of the ancient Aztecs, where money talks and enemies can be bought.

You’re El Nino, wanderer, traveler, and adventurer at heart. You’re about to embark on a mysteriously dangerous adventure that will lead you through forests, underwater passages and phantom zones to name a few.

Your objective: reach the Aztec Paradise, where the tokens of wealth and happiness await.

But the land is rich with thieves and traitors, so be prepared to spend a small fortune in search of a greater one. And remember, in a kingdom of gods, no one is smiled upon.

Controls

• Arrow Keys – D-Pad (Movement etc.)
• Button 1 – X (Starts game and select items from the item display).
• Button 2 – Z (Attack with your sword or throw selected item).
• Pause – Enter
• Attention – These controls are default. Hover your mouse into the lower part of the screen and a control bar will show up. Click on the gamepad icon and redefine your the keys if you want.
