Overview
California Games is a game where players compete in multiple outdoor sports with the goal of breaking their own records or those of other players. Developed by 80s legends Epyx, with a reputation for producing multiple-event games, traditional sports were abandoned to accommodate less-established pursuits associated with The Golden State.
This game was made avaliable on multiple 8-bit and 16-bit computers, consoles, and handhelds. California Games was first released for the Commodore 64 and Apple II, in 1987. The Sega Master System’s version, the one we have here available to be played online, in your browser (HTML5), was published in 1989 by Sega.
The available events are as follows: Half-pipe (Skateboarding); Foot Bag (Hacky Sack); Surfing, starring Rippin’ Rick; Skating (Roller Skating); BMX; and Flying Disc (Frisbee). It can be played by a lot of people in the hot seat format.
