For Sega Master System, Arcade, NES, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and DOS!
Published (or updated) in May 1st, 2024.
Here we have added cheats and tips for Operation Wolf, an old rail shooter that is very reminiscent of Rambo and Chuck Norris films, in several of its versions.
For those who don’t know, Operation Wolf is a shooting gallery style shooter developed by Taito where you are a special soldier who must infiltrate some communist shithole, shoot commies and rescue prisoners of war. All good. It was originally released in 1987, to the arcades.
The tricks we have here consist of codes that activate cool stuff such as endless bullets, health, rapid fire and grenades. There are also general tips and videos.

Action Replay codes (SMS)
The passwords that enable endless health, grenades and bullets in Operation Wolf for Master System require Action Replay, a Game Genie-type device, that is, that allows you to activate cheats and/or modify some stuff in-game. You can activate these codes in emulators such as Emulicious (Tools > Cheats) and Fusion (File > Game Genie / PAR), if you don’t have the physical thing:
00C1 1699
– Endless bullets00C1 1906
– Endless grenades00C1 0500
– Endless health
Start on level 6 (ZX Spectrum)
You’ll be starting on level 6 if loading the 128K version on a 48k Spectrum. As simple as that.
Cheats (Commodore 64)
Reset the machine with an Action Replay Cartridge and type in:
POKE 34952,165
– Endless grenadesPOKE 36009,165
– Endless energyPOKE 35051,165
– Endless bulletsPOKE 34813,173
– Endless rapid fire
Ammo management (NES)
You have to make sure you don’t waste ammo in this game. Wait until tanks and choppers are close enough to take out with one grenade instead of two. It’s usually never worthwhile to waste explosives on troops. These types of strategies are especially important later in the game.
Message from the developer (DOS)
Start the game with command line argument ¿
. To get this inverted question mark, hold down [Alt] while typing 168
. The high score table will be replaced by a message from the developer. Also the Taito screen is drawn differently, and during the demo mode a story and special thanks appear.
General tips (Arcade)
Getting extra ammo, grenade and points
Each level removes 3 points of damage from you, but the Village removes 20. If you are playing on an easier difficulty level, with lots of power drinks, and you are a true aimer, you may end up with less than three points in the first level (Communication Setup/Radar) or less than twenty at the end of the Village. If that’s the case, leave a helicopter alive. When it flies across the screen, shoot him with 9 bullets to earn points and leave him just 1 shot away from being destroyed.
These enemies only inflict 1 point of damage on the player and take a long time to do so. In the meantime, power drinks, grenades and ammunition may appear to be collected and stacked before the level ends. Destroy the chopper when you have twenty bonus points in the Village or 3 in the others.
Using the health bonus health
If you are the version that allows you to select levels, choose the village when you have 15 to 20 points of damage to make the most of the bonus life points that this stage gives you, removing 20 points of damage.
Don’t choose the Ammo Dump/Powder Magazine, as it makes you spend ammunition than it provides, inflicts a lot of damage on you and there are three helicopters that come as reinforcements for the final round that will make you bleed.
Having a better life on the 4th Mission
In the Ammo Dump (or Powder Magazine), try to shoot the large blond enemies in their faces with machine guns to kill them quicker. You won’t need to waste a lot of bullets and grenades on them.
Also, keep a stream of fire in the right corner of the mortar behind the sandbags to hit the enemy before he uses this weapon against you. It will save you some headaches.
Optimizing grenades
Try to figure out when to throw grenades to hit more than one enemy vehicle at a time. These explosives are too scarce. Don’t use indiscriminately.
Saving ammo on Concentration Camp
In order to save ammo in the Concentration Camp level, wait until the soldiers at the end blink before you shoot them. Sometimes these enemies don’t blink nor shoot and you won’t need to destroy them, so then you don’t need to bother shooting them down.
Playthrough (SMS)
Next, we have ta video with the game’s playthrough, which shows it being completely finished without commentary. This is a video from the World of Longplays channel published on April 15, 2020:

There’s also a longplay of the arcade version of the game:
That’s it for now.
We hope this helps!
