Jurassic Park [NES]

Overview

Jurassic Park is a top-down open world shooter based on the film and novel of the same name in which the objective is to survive in a theme park where genetically modified dinosaurs have escaped containment. It was developed by Ocean Software and initially released in 1993 to NES and Game Boy. Here, we have its NES version set to be played online, in your browser (HTML5).

In this Jurassic Park game, the player takes on the role of Dr. Alan Grant and must complete six stages, each with distinct objectives, such as rescuing the children Tim and Lex, destroying Velociraptor nests, restoring the park’s power, and ultimately escaping the dinosaur-infested island. The game also features a two-player mode where players take turns controlling the character.

Each stage consists of several sections where the player must collect a specific number of dinosaur eggs and find access cards to progress. The park’s computer terminals can be used to request hints about where to go next. Throughout the journey, Grant faces various hostile species, including Velociraptors, Dilophosaurs, and Compsognathus. Some enemies, like the Tyrannosaurus rex, cannot be defeated and must be avoided. To defend himself, the player can use different types of weapons scattered across the levels, each with varying damage and firing patterns.

Jurassic Park features “mystery” boxes scattered throughout the maps, which may provide temporary bonuses such as extra health, invincibility, or extra lives. However, some boxes may also carry penalties, reducing Grant’s health or even costing a life. The player starts with three lives and four continues.

In addition to common enemies, some stages feature boss encounters, including a Triceratops stampede and confrontations with the Tyrannosaurus rex.
