Overview
Phelios is a vertical scrolling shoot ’em up based on Greek mythology developed and published by Namco originally released to the arcades, which took place in 1988.
It features 7 stages divided into 2 or 4 sections. In the end of these stages, there’s a boss: Medusa, Graea, the Siren, Antaeus, Scylla, Cerberus and Typhon, the Titan who kidnapped Artemis.
The player controls Apollo riding a winged horse, from where he shoots with his sword and faces a huge number of enemies such as harpies and skeletons, along with goblins and the aforementioned colossal bosses in order to rescue the goddess. The standard shot can be charged by holding the button, thus increasing its power. Even the smallest enemies take multiple hits, so the standard shot is of little use.
This shooter was released for Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in 1990, and became one of the great references of the genre on this platform. That’s the version we have here available for you to play online, on your browser (HTML5)
